You are 100% right SG and in practice I NEVER EVER "pop" a rope clutch that's under load

I really was just trying to make a point to counter Jon who was making a point to imply that using a clutch on a sheet was tantamount to setting yourself up being capsized in a gust.

I always take up the line tension using the winch before opening a clutch. Popping open a rope clutch will cause premature wear on the lines and fray covers.
