More Likely he would have said, "leaned."
In Response To: You're right . . . ()

True story,

Took a friend and his wife out for their first sail, some years back. Friend and wife are avid power boaters. They a 45' Trawler. A Thompson, I think it is called. An unusual hull form for a trawler. Anyway, they are among the few folks of either stripe who are at their boat, every weekend and use it.

I was very disappointed, that there was so little wind, we could only just barely keep the sails full and moving along ever so slightly.

About 3/4 of the way through our scheduled sail, the breeze freshened a mite. Just a might, mind you. Enough to put a few cat's paws on the water and to give the helm a feel that it was actually being sailed.

And of course, we heeled, ever so slightly as we were close hauled. I was so relieved to actually be sailing, I didn't think to pay attention to how my guests were enjoying themselves.

As we were departing from our sail that night, I overheard the wife say to the husband, "I'm not so sure about that leaning stuff."
