the owner (tom) is very helpful with instructions. It is also easily fixed. He will tell you how to prep.
you will need to etch the bare metal, and instead of some really expensive stuff, he will recommend a particular household cleaner which will work fine.
mine is still great after about 6 years.
He will also match your awlgrip color.
BTW, I have no connection with them, except have used it on my and other's boats with much success.
