Back in the '70s, Zodiacs were the expensive inflatable with Avons a little less expensive. The Mark 1 and 2 Zodiac designs were much better for the anchorage terrorizing crowd as they'd actually plane with their inflatable keel. There was a trimaran with a Mark 1 and 25hp Mercury in the Marquesas that used to go water skiing till they ran out of gas. Avons were just getting into the transom type inflatable and their designs were basically Redcrests with a transom, otherwise flat bottomed, non planing types, IIRC.
