I wrapped our log line around the prop of our boat off of Monterey, CA in January. Went in to cut away the line. Within a few minutes, probably not more than 5 minutes, I'd lost all feeling in my hands. Had to duck my head under the water and work visually. Began to lose motor function not too long after ward. Fortunately, got the line cut away before I was totally incapacitated. Had to be hoisted back on to the boat by the crew as I wasn't able to do it by myself. When I got back on the boat, jumped into a 20 degree rated sleeping bag curled up in a fetal position and shivered violently for more than an hour. Took me well over an hour before I felt warm enough to crawl out of the bag.
Anyone who sails in water less than 55 degrees that doesn't have a 'Poopy Suit' is basically guaranteeing that will not survive a sinking.
