and the Monitor. I had great success with the monitor. The Auto helm had the rudder in the water all the time driven with a trim tab. For what it's worth, I wouldn't buy anything that had a rudder in the water that couldn't be raised or removed in about 2 seconds. The Monitor was a great unit. My only reservation is that the SS parts use bolts and clamps that align the vane to various hull configurations. This makes for places that are hard to polish so keeping it looking good takes a little more effort. The up side is that it's not aluminum with the paint peeling off all of the time. I can't speak to any other wind vane as I only have experience with these two. I would buy a Monitor again without hesitation.
