Since NOAA

is the only entity in this country with the resources to have nationwide on-site weather receptors, it should come as no surprise to you that every single private weather agency out there relies on NOAA data to make its forecasts.

Given that Weather reporting is generally the only job in life where you can be wrong 80% of the time and keep your job, it's actually a tip of the hat to NOAA employees, civil servants who are generally notorious for their lack of skill and dedication to excellence, that NOAA weather forecasts are generally regarded as the most accurate reports out there. A most excellent achievement for a Government entity.

Even if they are only right, 20% of the time. Which is not entirely true. Over the last ten years, NOAA has pretty much nailed it in our area when it comes to precipitation, temperatures and cloud conditions.

They do still miss very often on the wind and wave conditions on the bay. Almost daily in summer they claim it's going to be 10-15 with waves to a foot. If only we had those conditions all summer, this would be sailing a paradise. Instead, we get Calm to dead flat calm with occasional gusts to a breeze.
