Hi Don,
...or the cruiser docked next to it, for that matter... (grin)
Hell, if you're gonna build a 390-footer, may as well go all out... Not my style, but you've got to admire the boldness of the concept, the newest Zumwalt-class Navy ships are a variation of the same hull form... IMHO, certainly a more interesting yacht than Paul Allen's OCTOPUS, or Larry Ellison's ugly-ass RISING SUN, to name just a couple...
I've been reading about A in a German megayacht magazine (one of the other cover stories is an overview of "Compact Yachts for First-Time Owners", featuring a brace of 80-95 footers), it really is a fascinating yacht... The interior is magnificent, much more stylish and understated than the majority of big yachts nowadays... Some of the design features boggle the mind, imagine having to dock that yacht, for one thing... you'll notice there are no wing bridges for the skipper to get far enough outboard to conn the boat alongside, he wouldn't be able to see shit from the ship's bridge... So, they have a series of extendable video cameras that are positioned outboard all along the length, and docking becomes a "virtual" exercise...
Not many architects are building Guggenheim Museums any more, I think it's kind of refreshing to see a designer and builder create something so distinctive and dramatic... Most megayachts of the Wedding Cake School of Yacht Design look all alike nowadays, and although I much prefer a more classic look, I expect that the look of a yacht like A might grow on you after awhile...
best regards,
Jon
