Ken:
Last year I retired my venerable Garmin 48 (that navigated me for several thousand miles, BTW) in favor of a Garmin 76. What I really wanted was a WAAS capable, simple GPS that I could use as an anchor alarm. One of the critical features of the 76 is that the alarm continue to sound until awknowledged (many beep once). It worked fine for this purpose. The black and white display made it somewhat difficult to read the boat's breadcrumbs as it swung back and forth. I had to play with the contracst and brightness to get it to work, otherwise those little points were mostly invisible.
