Once in a while ours will do that if I don't keep the small openings clean. Seems when a couple of them get clogged up they hold back a bit of gas, when it gets out, we get the puff.

We have a force 10 that has black steel burner tops/covers held on by 2 VERY SMALL screws. They no matter what I did, they would develop a bit of rust under them and once it dropped in the way of a couple of the holes I got the condition. I just got 2 new stainless steel tops from Force 10. That should cure our problems for good!
