Hey Dan,,
I’ve just never needed that much sleep, I guess… and years of delivering boats, I’ve figured out how to manage it… And as you know, photographers are accustomed to being up before the sun, and working until well after it goes down, so I’m used to putting in long days… (grin)
Arrived today in Beaufort, after what has to have been one of the most relaxing 3 day passages I’ve ever had… The forecast had it looking like a motor job, or at least motorsailing for most of the way, but I had a very pleasant surprise… Leaving Ponce Inlet, I had W-NW winds between 12-18 knots for most of the first 2 days, just beautiful sailing, noon to noon runs of 148 and 130 miles, until the wind completely died yesterday, leaving me to motor in the last 28 hours…. Still, way better than I had expected, even Chris Parker – who was routing a boat up the coast about a day behind me – couldn’t believe we had as much wind as we did for as long as we did, before it quit… I don’t think I’ve seen a single cloud since Tuesday, unseasonably warm, beautiful moon every night, saw very little traffic enroute… Given the kind of weather it’s likely to see along here this early in the spring, this trip was a gift, and I arrived today feeling fresh as a daisy… (grin)
Looks like a few more light air days to drift up Pamlico Sound and up the beach to the Chesapeake Entrance, then a couple of days of building SW to ride up to NJ, hopefully arriving just before another front on Wed night or so… If that all plays out, this will have been a VERY lucky trip home, indeed…
Best regards,
Jon
