I was thinking that too Rich, then I remembered the anti siphon vent. 
In Response To: if the seacock is closed there should be no stress to the pumps valves ()
Which of course will allow a small opening. But I'm pretty sure the check valve will be up to it. If it isn't, after a new check valve in installed, a Y valve will be needed.
