We should have put a plug in the end of the boom before we left the boat for 6 weeks. Here we are ready to head North to Providencia Colombia ( 300 miles ) and we had a nest with a little head that popped up once in a while. The parents were flying around darting in and out but the time came for a shakedown cruise to an anchorage nearby for a couple of days. The parents followed us the 8 miles but in the end, the trauma of the move made them skittish enough that the chick wasn't fed enough and although we returned to the marina last night, this morning the chick was lying on the bimini. In looking in the boom it appears that there are no more chicks in the nest that have hatched.
Last evening at the cantina we all discussed what the best approach would be. Thankfully, it's now a mute point.
Time to plug up the boom to discourage the parents who haven't come to terms with an empty nest.
