Thank you all for throwing that bucket of cold water on me. Whew! I was wound up and ready to buy anything. The powerboat sale and move went well, although took a bit of doing. That was one less distraction. I then had a real opportunity to go through the Jeanneau with my checklist and found very few things to check off. Details aside, the boat was misrepresented by the seller and was "assumed" to be fine by the broker. I took back my offer, ripped up the contract and got my deposit back.
I have put on nearly 1000 miles since then looking at boats from one end of the lake to the other. Only one broker was straight up in my estimate. He said "Craig, in spite of the upswing in boat sales, there are very few quality used boats out there. Most have one foot in the grave." He is correct. So, we are still boatless and looking.
Did you know that in brokerspeak "needs cleaning" means the rubrail was torn off? You can say the words "this price is firm" and "delaminated deck" in the same sentence?
