After much ado, we just closed yesterday on our new to us Freedom 40/40. I feel quite lucky in that opposed to others, things went (relatively) smoothly. The boat was owned by the yard, so the problems found at the survey are being taken care of with much less hassle than most. The surveyor still did not love the job they did on an area of delamination, so we have an escrow until the winter when they will do the repair again to the satisfaction of the surveyor, but we will get to go sailing tomorrow. Thus far everyone has acted in good faith. I am excited to get out sailing on her, as she should be a real hoot to sail.
I traded my Freedom 36/38, so I know what I am in for, as I am a big Freedom fan. Just too easy to single hand her. It is interesting that much of what they had done before has not come more into the main stream (carbon fiber mast, self tacking jib). The boat is a 1995 but only 400 something engine hours, and overall in nice shape.
So, as Jackie Gleason would say:
Away we go!!!!!
