We're always concerned about our security,, But,,

If we're at anchor in a remote area and there's another boat with a sugar scoop near by I'll bet the thug goes for the boat with the sugar scoop.

We have a lot of freeboard and feel it gives us an edge. Anyone climbing aboard ours will make more noise than climbing aboard a boat with low freeboard. (it's impossible for a swimmer) Feeling that we're less prone to boardings because of our freeboard , when I hear of a boat being boarded I look to see what kind of access the thugs had. Almost without exception it's a boat with either a sugar scoop or low freeboard. (Even when they sneak up with a panga)

Given that, when anchored in an area known for problems, we lock the companionway and sleep with a air horn, bright light and flare gun. Never happened but if we have boarders from a panga, I'll blast the air horn and set off a flare. Thieves don't like attention.

We know Mike. Nice guy. Hope they catch the thugs.

A good trick,,,, When you go to sleep, remove the companionway stairs. I know of a guy that was boarded and heard a large crash in the main salon. He found the thieve moaning in pain after falling through the hole.
