The used boat selection on this coast is still pretty grim, however we were told last Thursday of a boat that was about to be listed in Buffalo. Original owner was selling an 1985 Islander 28. A nice Bob Perry design, diesel, wheel, new UK sails, North Sails furler, perfect hull and keel, well laid out interior that is very pleasing to the eye. A little smaller than we were thinking but the build quality was much better than the other production boats of that time such as Catalina and Hunter. I was very impressed with the systems.
We made the trip, got there before the office opened. Did a major inspection, then made the offer which was accepted much to the unhappiness of the other two couples that were waiting to do the same thing. The boat is paid for, closing is tomorrow, splash and engine test is Monday. We hope to have her back in Erie by mid-week.
Downside is that I was told to "forget it" when I asked for time off to do the move myself. We have to hire a captain to make the move.
