Sailing fast in flat water with the Buick

Just for fun

In January of this year we were heading back to Bocas from the San Blas with a stop in Portobello. On the way to Portobello the wind was blowing off the land and we were about a mile off shore. The wind was in the neighborhood of 30 knots ahead of the beam, beautiful weather and flat seas. This was perfect conditions for the Buick and we were traveling near hull speed (9 knots) much of the time with a reefed main and headsail. It was such an enjoyable time I decided to shoot some video and make a movie.

We don't get to sail like this very often and for this long,,, over 3 hours. We just enjoyed the ride.

The enclosed quicktime movie link is 2 1/2 minutes long. Dick Dale paying the music.
