Last year around New Year's we spent a miserable week in Miami. It wasn't that bad, we made the best of it, I'm not sure the mercury got above 50, it was high 30's in the mornings and if the sun came out, we made it to the high 40's for an hour or two mid afternoon. We baked a lot to warm up the Galley. A friend lent us a small electric space heater that took the edge off, that was nice. It was the first time in 7 years of cruising we needed heat, we generally cross to the southern Bahamas for Christmas and the boat stays there until June, when she is put away until the next fall back on the East Coast. We have not yet been to New England with the boat, but maybe soon for a summer & fall.
I can run the electric heater from the Inverter and I also have a Honda 2000, but I think I'd rather stay away from the electric ? At the moment we do not have solar, but probably will soon. I usually have a jerry or two of diesel on the rail, our tankage at 45 g is smallish. We have one propane tank that supplies the Galley stove.
Last year was unusually cold in Florida and the Bahamas. Whatever we get for a heater, it should be small, easy to stow and not much of a consumer. My guess is we will probably never use it. Just something to have on hand in case we run into the weather we had last year. Any suggestions would be great, thanks !
