The boom tent will only keep snow/ice out of the cockpit and some of the cabin roof fitting seams, and you will still get ice at the deck edges and rail fittings. The full cover will do a much better job protecting the boat from freeze/thaw cycles.

In Spring -- by the time it's warm enough to clean and wax the topsides you'll want either cover off, if only to allow free access and let it air out.
