Perko makes (made?) two grades of stuff - chromed brass (bronze?) and chromed 'white metal'. The WM stuff is much less expensive and only suitable for interior use. The brass stuff holds up much better. Even so, my lazarette hatch hinges needed replacement after 30 years. They just looked tacky. I bit the bullet and went for the new chromed brass hinges. The pain of the price has worn off, and the hinges still look great - they even fit!
Funny story - had a customer come into Defender looking for a replacement for some 'SeaBold' hardware. She seemed rather upset that we couldn't special order it for her - after all, we got her good savings on everything else. She wouldn't accept that 'SeaBold' is a Boaters World tradename, and only available through them!
