I used Aramid/Buna-N, 3/32" thick (from McMaster-Carr, part number 9470K39). However, it is not very "squishy." I wouldn't recommend it unless the surfaces are nearly perfectly flat. Otherwise, it won't have enough "give" to fill out any surface imperfections.
