Cat dismasted by RR bridge in Norfolk Sunday

Not a good trip south for someone. 15 minutes after we went through the first RR bridge south of Norfolk, noting a train waiting on the west side, we heard on the VHF that a sailboat had been dis-masted as the lift bridge lowered. The skipper was apparently trying to beat the bridge closing, or possibly not paying attention, despite repeated warnings from the bridge tender on the VHF that the bridge was about to close. Traffic was held up for awhile, we have no idea what happened to the boat. Sorry no picture or U Tube video, which we might have had if we had taken a few more minutes to get off the dock that morning. When I go under those lift bridges that are normally up, I always wonder what I would do if it started down just as I went under. It definitely makes me want to pay attention to the VHF.
