Last weekend... The third race in a 3 race series... known as the Hot Rum race, sponsored by San Diego Yacht club. This particular event was quite the contrast to the even just two weeks before, where the severe weather forced the race to take place "inside the bay."
Last weekend the race was "called" at about the halfway point due to lack of wind. Some 100+ boats were outside the bay attempting to make marks while the scant winds slowly died. At one point we saw a competitor starting the race backwards across the line as their boat was carried by current at the no wind start.
We had a whopping peak of about 7 kts of wind as we went past Point Loma. In the photo we are hoping for any whisper of wind. We had time to change from our AP spinnaker to this light weight red spin in an effort to try to catch whatever lights puffs that might occur.
