I used 3/4 inch marine ply for the core,
I used 1.5 oz mat under the ply. On top of the ply are 2 alternating layers each of first 1.5oz mat and then 2408 biax/mat for a total thickness of just over 1/4inch. I used polyester resin. Although I did not vacuum bag I did use peel ply to help reduce pinholes after layup and to cure without using wax. After a rough fairing, filling and sanding I applied barrier coat 2000/2001 as a sanding surfacer and to further reduce pinholes. This is mostly removed during fairing and shows low spots that need additional work. After that it was a straight forward Awl-grip job using 545 Primer and a vinylester putty.
The owner wanted as little slick areas as possible. I prefer nice sectioned areas on deck with waterways. I'm lucky he let me do the white areas at all. At first he wanted it completely grey non skid all over to save money.
I used an HVLP gravity feed gun for the first time on the non skid and was very happy with the reduced overspray and ease of application. I still use a Devilbiss gun and pressure pot for the shiny area. The HVLP guns I have tried for the gloss areas just don't atomize fine enough for my taste.
