Towards the end of last season we finally got the new boat settled into the new slip. That involved some playing around as the boat is only 29' LOA and slip is 40', our beam is 10' and the slip is 16'. I was using some of my "dock" lines and some of my "traveling" lines of different flavors and lengths. Now that we have it all set up I want to get all new dock lines of the same type. The docks are floating, the boat is fairly light displacement, around 8,000 pounds. We have a certain amount of movement in the slip/basin, depending on wind direction and strength. If the situation warrants it, I'll double up the lines without hesitation. We use 1/2" diameter, my question is, how do you feel about 3-strand vs braided? I always thought the 3-strand was more stretchy which I assume would be better, and I have used it almost exclusively up to this point. However many of the people on our dock use braided instead. Is one better than the other? Is one more suited to a situation that another?
