Two product "finds" good to know about

1) Wema USA FL-2WE / FBR Mounting Adapter: This a one of those hard-to-find items for that special situation. If you have a European-made boat and need to replace a tank sender with something available in the US you are going to have a problem. OR if you have a 5-hole sender and want to replace it with a standard 1.25" threaded sender you need an adapter. This is a fiberglass disk (looks and feels like Maralon) that has a standard 1.25" inside thread for threaded type senders, and inside hole mounting pattern is American SAE-5 Hole, and outside hole mounting pattern is European Standard. $4 and the postage is more than that, but worth it just to have in your tool kit. http://www.wemausa.com/eshop/flanges/index.htm

2) Watch Commander Timer: I read about this product years ago and didn't want to spend the money, however after two years of an automated saved eBay search I finally landed one at a very nice price. I tested it today in my car (boat is on the hard) and all I can say is this is a "must have" for shorthanded sailors. (singlehanders and couples take note) It will keep the solo watch stander from dozing off when (s)he shouldn't, and wake the off-watch (even if in a deep sleep) if the watch-stander goes overboard. Up till now I've been using the Invisible Clock II to set a repeating alarm, but that's only effective as a regular reminder for the absent-minded whereas the Watch Commander is in another league as a safety device. Now that I've seen how it works (and heard it) I would pay full price to replace it if this one went away. http://www.sailsafely.com/watchcommander.htm
