..philosphical statement involving the vision, the pragmatism, and the artistic elements of the boat owner. Will it be simply utilitarian, slide back and forth and keep the outside things out and the inside things in? Will it perform those tasks while looking industrial or will it do those at the same time being an objet d'art and a thing of beauty or will it fall somewhere in between? If art combined with pragmatism will it still be sound structurally? So much to consider.
I started my slider with a vision, a dream of design and construction and it became a notion. Notions are risky things. On the one hand, they inspire and on the other hand they limit. Without inspiration there is no initiation, no conversion of the interia of rest into the inertia of action, no dream, no goal. Notions spawned by a dream limit though as they almost invariably create that proverbial box outside of which we are so often encouraged to think. While it is so that a vision or dream is a fluid thing cascading in one's thoughts, open to the universe...once it becomes a notion it is fixed in time until such moment when the inertia of action demonstrates that the notion, hence the dream, is not viable experientially. Such a moment is now for my sliding hatch. Time will tell.
