Twice over the years, I've had to get the anchor up on fairly large motoryachts after the electric windlass failed, and it was no fun... Without any winches aboard, or means to operate the windlass manually, plus being alone each time, it involved a lot of running back and forth between the helm and foredeck... (grin)

A good electric windlass is one of the nicest bits of gear one can put on a cruising boat, but it's just a matter of time before one goes away at least temporarily, and that sort of thing always seems to occur at the most inopportune of times... In that instance, I'd always be pleased to be on a smaller boat, than a bigger one...
