Your inquiry made me dig it out and connect it. Instead of using the ad-hock connection I created a work-group connection using my Verizon 5-spot (shown) so both computers are on the same Wi-Fi subnet and the host computer (the Toshiba netbook) is able to browse the Internet (I find having real-time weather info very valuable especially when there is unstable weather in the area). Note that when the remote display using RDP is active the host computer display is locked. (FYI you can run a browser locally on the Toughbook, but not at the same time as an RDP session is active. If running RDP the browser you see in the RDP session of the Toughbook is really running in the netbook host.)
Also Al -- if you get one of these don't forget to read the manual about backing up the configuration to a flash SD card. If you don't do it manually it will lose all your settings when you turn it off. Like I said -- archaic by today's standards, but this is a special purpose ruggedized terminal intended for use in industrial and medical situations -- not as a consumer gadget product (eg iPad).
