Tropical Dance is currently berthed in Ft. Lauderdale at the end of a 125' wide canal near the end (1/4 mile long) behind a private home. She will be there for hurricane season. The owner of the house had a Shannon 38 and said that he would spiderweb his boat to the middle of the canal. I know generally about the technique but last night a question came up in my mind. What about the owner of the dock or land across the canal you're tying up to? Since it's private property do you need to get permission in advance and work out a plan with the owners or is this something that's part of the local city code that doesn't need to be addressed? (Some sort of emergency hurricane situation waver) I'll talk to the dock owner where the boat is about it but need more research.
Having your vessel on a reasonably secure canal is comforting but If I have to fly back to Ft. Lauderdale to secure the boat and find grief from the home owner across is troubling until I get more information on how it's handled.
Any suggestions or input is appreciated.
