I've never had any desire to own a 12 1/2 but a Concordia Yawl is another story! Maybe 16 years ago I remember being invited aboard Renaissance by her then owner in Newport harbor. I think he was amused by my obvious admiration of his boat as he was staying on a mooring next to mine for a few days. What a beauty! She is a bright finished hull that is just stunning. I remember wanting to sell the then new to me Able Whistler 32 and buy a Concordia that day. I never did, and there are times that I wish I had.....
My wife (who entered the scene a few years later) later forbade me from ever owning a wooden boat! She had spent her early years sailing on (and maintaining) her family Abeking built Rhodes 27. While she loved the boat, she did not relish the maintenance end of the bargain. Little did she know when we met that I am a madman about boat maintenance anyway....
The Concordia's are some of my favorites anyway! If you like the boats find and read a copy of the books written by Waldo Howland on the subject, "A life in Boats, the Concordia years". It is an amazing picture of an extraordinary man, boat and life in a different time.
