When I saw this I called the Canal Control on VHF and they said the land cut is clear all the way through, so I decided to enter. The first 2-300 yards were "harrowing" as we made our way between the stone jetties (in 3+ knots of current) in zero-vis conditions. The jetty is about 20 feet high and marks the western side of the entrance from Cape Cod Bay. The buoy on the left marks the eastern side.
Jon E. would have loved me -- I steered by looking at the course projection lollipop on the C-P, because our boat heading was no indication of our actual COG.... slowing down for the fog meant the current would sweep us more off course. It was very confusing. Intruments-rule.... eyes and ears were of little use.
