draft issues and price range
In Response To: New boat ideas? ()

Our draft is advertised as 5', unless you believe what you read in magazines, then it could be more (I'm going to measure for sure in about 6 weeks). Last fall, in order to get the straps under the keel, it required a person on each side, standing on the sling bars and pushing the slings into the bottom with boat poles. The issue is not so much mud or sand, but shale rock. We really can't dredge much off the bottom.

Therefore a shoal draft is mandatory. I would say absolute max draft of 5'6".

Price range is a little more flexible. We are figuring the boat will be in the 1980's vintage, our price range is likely to be around $40k - $50k, it really depends on the boat. There seem to be a couple of very nice looking mid-80's Hunter 34's over in Ohio that are very interesting.

I'm sure for another $100k or so I could pick up that Alliend Princess 36
