We had a pleasant trip up Delaware bay...

thanks for all the suggestions.

I started to cut the corner across the Overfall Shoals out of Cape May, but there were occasional sets of swells that might have been 5 feet or so. Through the binoculars I could see these rise up into impressive breaking waves somewhere to the northwest, so I went around most of it. By the time I got around the corner, the swells seemed to have calmed down and no more breakers could be seen (tide might have changed in the mean time as well). We motored up the entire length of the bay with winds light and variable, but mostly from the southwest at 2-4 knots. When they finally did settle down the last hour or so they were NW at 8. This is vs. the forecast 5-10 E. Carried the tide at 1.5 - 2 knots all the way up into Summit North Marina which was quiet enough. If you go in there on a low tide stick closer to the point.

Next day a nice sail into Annapolis, close reach to beam reach in 6-10.
