out in the La Paya anchorage in San Diego this weekend and last. Last weekend a 35 foot Baba drug down on us and this weekend it was a 45 foot cat. Neither time was the owner on board. I think we have, somehow, become a fiberglass magnet. When the Baba came down on us we were below and the guy anchored next to us got in his dinghy and came over to warn us. I was able to push it with my dinghy and let it slide down the side of us missing us by a few feet. This time I was ashore getting a bottle of wine. I was only going to be gone a few minutes so didn't bring my cell phone. My wife called me but all she got was a ringing sound coming from the chart table. She was not happy. As I was coming down the channel I thought "boy, that boats pretty close". Then I saw all the people standing on it and about as many standing on Brendon and I began to get the picture. This guys anchor windless didn't work, he had to have his girlfriend sit by one of the engines and shift it from forward to reverse and his dinghy was almost flat. Does that tell you anything about anything? The up side is that we didn't take any damage and the other up side was that we met some really nice people who saw my wife in trouble and came to her rescue. I'm going to start anchoring at the head of the anchorage so I'm the upwind boat from now on. We haven't even started the season yet and already we've dodged two bullets. I hope that's not a harbinger of things to come. Like I always say, I'd rather be lucky then good!
