Viscosity differences

The kinematic viscosity of fluids controls the RATE of filtration.

#2 Fuel oil has 4 times the kinematic viscosity of gasoline. It will take 4X the amount of time to filter the oil than gasoline; OR, will need 4 times the 'pump strength' to filter at the same time rate. General rule is that oil filters need a LOT of 'filter surface area' to prevent clogging i n comparison to 'gasoline' filters. Probability .. if the oil is already contaminated with particles the filter will fail 6 times 'faster' using a 'gasoline' filter to filter #2 oil.
All of these fuel filter media are typically made with 'resinated' cellulose fibers ... compatible with oil and or gasoline for less than 6-12 months service.

Remote but possible ... if these gasoline filters contains 'absorbing compounds' (starches or fullers earth, etc.) they may 'come loose' in oil. Just 'watch for a haze' emission from the filter when a filtered test sample is held up to STRONG white light.
