A number of years ago, after sailing out of the same harbour for 35 years clipped a well known and charted obstrution

Put a bigger dent in my ego than the boat, but I just screwed up big time.
Thought my auto helm was engaged when it wasn't and was busy tidying up lines and fenders rather than watching where I was going.
If I had a deeper draft and was sailing a less well built boat I could have torn a nice hole and be swimming for shore.
