An impressive example of crevasse corrosion

Except for what I read in a Cruising World article years ago I know little about the properties of metal, especially stainless alloys. The main thing that I recall from the article is that seemingly minor pitting in stainless, usually appearing in oxygen starved areas, is a warning sign of catastrophic failure.
