I don't think it is necessary to keep topping yourself to be satisfied.

But she'll always have the memory of what she did and that can be pretty satisfying.

I did an Ironman once, did well, and I treasure that memory, but I have no desire to try and top it. I just shifted my focus to adventures and challenges in other areas of life.
