Ice between Newfoundland and Iceland

A few years ago during a return trip from Europe I was able to catch this shot from the airplane window. We were flying at about 35,000 feet and I can only guess at the scale, but I think the larger flows are over a mile across (possibly several miles). When you consider windage and current it would be easy to see how a boat could be trapped and crushed between these flows.
