I have a B&G system which started acting up. It turned out to be an O-ring where the anemometer cups screw on had crazed and failed, allowing moisture to the electronics inside. I sent it to some guy in Florida who repaired it for $150 if I recall correctly and it's worked fine ever since.
Sounds like you may have pinpointed the problem to the female pins, but thought I'd mention this in case.
I rue the day I have to replace the entire system; maybe by then someone will have developed a reliable wireless Apparent Wind Angle indicator; that's the only sensor I consider almost indispensable.
