I love the Ocklawaha River.

Pam and I are in Eureka, Florida visiting her mom. There was a cross Florida barge canal that runs through here that had begun in the 1960s, but after a quarter of it was completed, including the building of high arched bridges, locks, and pilings, construction was halted due to environmental concerns.

I never knew about this canal. What a great thing it would have been for commercial barge traffic and recreational boaters traveling between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic!

Being a boater, I was dismayed to learn what might have been, until I saw the beauty of what may have been destroyed.

his is now high on our list of places to live. It's rural, so we could buy a few acres and Pam could have a couple of horses, plus it has the Ocklawaha River for fishing and canoeing. It's very high on our list.
