Thursday afternoon Mike and I glassed the rudder. Before leaving it received a coat of resin thickened with micro-ballons. Friday was spent sanding filling, resanding, filling.... Mike's 8" dual action air sander made the fairing process Much easier. At the end of the day we spread on a final coat of thickened gel-coat. Saturday morning I sanded that smooth then rolled on 5 coats of Interprotect. Sunday morning I got on a coat of bottom paint and called it good. Later this week or perhaps this weekend I'll spend some time prepping the hull then the boat will have to be lifted two or three feet to slide the rudder back in place.
I was very fortunate to have Mike Casey offer the use of his shop and to supervise and help me. His is generally considered one of the best glass repair shops in the area.
