Have an older 710 and used it for years. A couple of times I forgot it was in my pocket and went swimming with it. Once when the dink went out from under me!
Still works GREAT!

About a year ago I sent it back and for a reasonable cost had it reconditioned and they updated the software.

What ever you decide, get a waterproof if it's for boat use....
