The Marlon Brando Bounty was made to accommodate filming below decks so it was made bigger than the original. They did quite of bit of camera work on board the ship. The New Zealand Bounty was built to the lines of the original Bounty but it has a steel hull with wood planking over the steel. After sailing on that ship, I'm amazed anyone ever got anywhere in those days and it's no wonder there was a mutiny when Blye (captain Blye, not our Blye), tried to go to weather around the Horn. The ship, by all accounts, sails very similar to the original and wouldn't go to weather at all. With lee-way it makes about 110 degrees to the wind. I had a blast sailing on the Bounty but we had the advantage of two 400 hp diesels so going to weather was no problem
