The transport company or owner or both had insurance. An insurance adjuster came to the marina and talked to the employees.
The accident occurred in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on U.S. 2 west of the Mackinac Bridge.
When the truck driver swerved (reason still unknown), the aft end of the sailboat came loose. The boat pivoted counterclockwise. The stern fell off the trailer and was dragged along the road. The starboard quarter was holed and the rudder demolished. When the bow swung to the left, it took out the mast, which was stored on the trailer along the port side of the boat. The bow was crushed by the steel support columns on the trailer. The keel was “dislodged” (the word used by the marina employee I talked to).
