It could be that you have a corroded wire(s) or coneector(s) on the power to the unit. I racall that it will go into alarm if the voltage drops down for even a brief time. Check both GROUND and POSITIVE feeds.

Check not only the unloaded votage, but the amperage carried (a corroded wire will sometimes carry voltage when unloaded but lacks the ability to carry any amperage at the voltage).
