When we were going south along the Pacific coast in '04, we stopped in Ensenada, Mexico to check in and spend some time. We spent a few days hanging out with a very nice sailing lady by the name of Jeanne. We then met up a few times including some time together in La Paz before she headed off on far flung adventures. One of which had her loosing her boat within a few hundred miles of closing an around the world trip! She sailed more in a few months than we did in years!!!
WHAT A LADY!!
Just got the following email.......
Greetings from 'Nereida'!
We're very close now to the 'Pacific North West' and B.C. - I'm getting excited at the prospect of finishing my solo circumnavigation via the Five Great Capes of the Southern Ocean: C. Horn (S.America), C. of Good Hope (S.Africa), C. Leeuwin (SW Australia), SE Cape of Tasmania, SW Cape of New Zealand. The last two Capes were rounded by me on this present set of passages for the first time... Being so far S, well into the Southern Ocean, they can be difficult to round, weather in that area so often being nasty, especially coming into winter, as it was, so I was happy to have done so safely!
I expect to 'close the circle' on Wednesday 1st August when I reach Tatoosh Island, near Cape Flattery, at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca (between USA and Canada), which I left in October 2010 at the start of my nonstop RTW attempt, and I should make landfall later that same day in Victoria, B.C. - well before dark, I hope! I'll be continuing on to Port Townsend over the weekend - ETA Monday 6th Aug.
BTW, I understand I'll be setting a world record on my return.... as the oldest woman by far (!!) to have sailed solo around the world via the Five Great Capes of the Southern Ocean (I've a 'big' birthday in August...!) and I'll have sailed over 28,800 mls, with just over 250 days at sea, on this circumnavigation ....!
Hope you're keeping fine - I look forward to getting your news, as always!
Cheers,
Jeanne
