I much prefer a single braid for a mainsheet...

Hey Doug,

...or any similar application that's gonna run thru multiple purchases... Ropes like Sta-Set will eventually acquire a twist, and become prone to kinking and hockling, and in my experience Sta-Set can get pretty stiff over time...

Yale has come out with a new single braid they call Ph.D, looks like a very nice rope... I use NER Salsa for my 5:1 multi-purchase mainsheet, it runs beautifully, and is very nice on the hands... But, that line is probably a bit "snazzy" for your Sabre - not to mention a man of your refined tastes - so the Yale Ph.D would probably be more appropriate for you... (grin)

I got the full demo of this rope at the Yale booth in Annapolis last year, it's very light and won't tend to absorb water... It's a very nice rope...

I'd suggest you handle the line before choosing, however, some folks used to double braids find braids like Ph.D and Regatta to feel or look a bit strange...

If you really want to stick with a double braid, check out VPC from New England Ropes, that's a very nice rope that's likely to remain softer, and run a bit more freely, than Sta-Set...

Hope to see you again soon, I might be passing thru your neighborhood in September, perhaps...

best regards,

Jon
